The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society dedicates 75 percent of every dollar spent to advance its mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Society meets the Better Business Standards for ethical conduct and charitable accountability.  The remaining 25 percent is divided between administration and travel expenses, though to insure that 100 percent of your donation goes towards research and professional education we will be paying this 25 percent via donations ourselves.

Every 5 minutes, someone is newly diagnosed with more than 106,000 new cases expected this year

Every 9 minutes, someone dies from blood cancers resulting in an estimated 58,300 deaths in 2003 alone

About the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a not-for-profit, voluntary health organization whose mission is to cure leukemia and its related cancers - lymphoma, multiple myeloma and Hodgkin's disease - and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.  The Society provides funding for research, public and professional education, patient aid and community service programs.

The Society has five priority programs to help reach its goal of finding cures to eliminate leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma:

• Funded research initiatives support projects throughout the world.
• The Patient Financial Aid Program provides free financial and emotional support to those affected by blood cancer.
• Various public education programs provide free materials to the public.
• The Community Service Program works with community services and agencies to meet patient needs.
• The Professional Education Program provides continuing education opportunities for healthcare professionals with regard to the latest advances in leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma treatment.

The Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Chapter

The Southern California Division currently funds research at these academic and medical institutions:  City of Hope National Medical Center, University of California Los Angeles, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, California Institute of Technology, Beckman Research Institute, Loma Linda University, and University of California at Irvine.

Why The Society Needs Your Help

Funding for research is imperative to help the Society reach its goal of finding a cure for blood related cancers.  Over the years, leukemia research has proven to be the window of hope for potential cures for other forms of cancer.  Bone marrow transplantations as well as chemotherapy - the backbone for treatment of most forms of cancer - stemmed from leukemia research.

Why We Need Your Help

We will be participating in an endurance event named Team in Training to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for future blood cancer research and patient aid and community service programs.  How this involves you is simple, we're looking for sponsors to become involved through the donation of money.  All this will take is a minute of your time, a little less time than the 26.2 mile marathon you will be sponsoring us to run on October 24th, 2004.  Please know that it is our goal to raise over $10,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and that 75% of those funds raised will go directly to funding research, professional education and for quality of life improvements for patients and their families and every contribution is tax deductible.  The remaining 25% is divided between administration and travel expenses, though to insure that 100% of your donation goes towards research and professional education we will be paying this 25% via donations ourselves.
